Roma Ada (Hetrick) Reed

Roma A. (Hetrick) Reed passed away on May 4, 2019 after a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia and recent complications related to a stroke. She was 80 years young.

Born on July 10, 1938 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Roma was the daughter of the later Robert Pierce and Reba Mae (Heverling) Hetrick.

She was the wife of the late O. Thomas Reed, Jr, who preceded her in death in 1988.

Roma was a loving, caring and compassionate mother and Nanny to her grandchildren and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild in August.

A long-time resident of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, she was an active volunteer at her church (Paxton United Methodist Church) with the Easter Egg crew, local hospice, and with the former Hummelstown Ambulance Association. She was retired from Nationwide Insurance Company where she worked for over 25 years. Roma was beloved by many and is remembered for always lending a helping hand and nurturing a sick family member or friend, as is reflected in the lives she has touched and those she has loved. She always took pride in being independent and taught us all how to be strong and how to love and care for others.

In addition to her husband and parents, Roma was preceded in death by her brother Robert P. Hetrick, Jr. and his wife Doris who raised her from a young age, following her mother’s death.

Surviving is her sister Doris Magaro of Marysville and brother Sonny Klinepeter (Damaris) of Duncannon; her four children: Debra Reed-Gillette (Robert) of Silver Spring MD, Michael Reed (Jean) of Lebanon PA, Sherry Breckenmaker (the late Kevin Breckenmaker) of Hershey PA, and Laurie Masino (Robert) of Downingtown PA; 7 beloved grandchildren: Nicholas Caffas (Alli) of Pittsburgh PA, James Gillette (Nicole) of Bethesda MD, Andrew Caffas (Joy) of Murrysville PA, Michael Masino (Justine) of Downingtown PA, Jonathan Gillette of Silver Spring MD, Colin Masino and Grace Masino of Downingtown PA; and many nieces, nephews, and God-children.

A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 pm Friday, June 14, 2019 at Paxton United Methodist Church, 3550 North Progress Avenue, Harrisburg with the Rev. Brent Salsgiver officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of services.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA.org) or your favorite charity in her name.
