Nancy G. (O'Hara) Wion

May 7, 1943 — December 6, 2020

Harrisburg

Nancy (O’Hara) Wion, 77, Susquehanna Township, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Harrisburg Hospital surrounded by family following a valiant battle with several health issues.

Born May 7, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY, but raised in Scranton, Pa. (1944-1957) and Bellefonte, Pa. (1957 – 1961), she was the daughter of the late John R. and Elsie R. (Hoffner) O’Hara. She graduated from Bradford High School in 1961 and received her RN from the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing in 1964.

When Nancy was in Bellefonte middle school, she met her future husband, David Wion. They started dating in their junior year of high school, remained together when Nancy’s family moved to Bradford, continued dating through college, married on April 24, 1965,and remained inseparable ever since. They are truly the loves of each other’s lives.

Nancy worked at Abington Memorial General Hospital in Abington, Pa. from 1965 to 1968. She then moved to Harrisburg with husband David where she worked for the Osteopathic Hospital for one year before beginning their family. At that time Nancy chose to stay home and raise their two children, Melissa and Matthew. After raising her children, she worked for the Central Dauphin School District as a nurse and then later in the office of the Dauphin County Recorder of Deeds.

Nancy was an active member of Paxton Presbyterian Church where she was a Nursery School Teacher, Deacon, and a fellow member of the Funeral Luncheon Crew. She will be dearly missed by her church family.

She was the past president of the Lenker Manor Women’s Club, Central Dauphin East Football Booster’s Club, and the Lenker Manor Pool. Her family meant everything to her and she was always in attendance at her children’s school activities. She is well remembered for her legendary Christmas Eve parties, which at times hosted over 100 guests. Coming from a Penn State family, she was an avid Nittany Lion Fan; enjoyed playing card games (and excelled at Bridge); listening to 60s music, especially Elvis; and reading good books, a trait she passed on to her children.

Surviving is her beloved husband, David A. Wion; her daughter, Melissa Wion Bradley (and her husband, Lance), Harrisburg; her son, Matthew D. Wion (and his wife, Chela), North Haledon, NJ; one sister, Susan Calpin (and her husband, William), Dunmore, PA; one brother, John R. O’Hara, Jr., Brooklyn, NY; 4 grandchildren, Michelle Reyes (and her husband, Rafael), Madeline Calvache- Wion (significant other, Salvatore Emmolo), Andrea Calvache -Wion and Sean Calvache- Wion; 2 great grandchildren, Adrianna Reyes and Alessandra Reyes; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; many grand-dogs; and a host of other family members and friends.
