Lydia M. (Shirk) Clemmer

Lydia M. (Shirk) Clemmer, 87, Harrisburg, passed away peacefully in the hospital with her daughter by her side on December 6, 2021 in Harrisburg, PA. She was a resident of Homeland Center.

Born December 1, 1934 in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Susanna (Martin) Shirk and was retired from Lucent Technologies and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation/Monticello, Charlottesville, VA.

Lydia was the widow of Floyd B. Clemmer, who passed away in Palmyra, VA in 2001 after 42 years of marriage. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: John, Henry, Aaron, Ammon, Samuel, Noah, and Adam Shirk, Elizabeth (Shirk) Weaver, Barbara (Shirk) Shrock, and Susanna (Shirk) Nolt.

Lydia was a skilled seamstress and crafter. She enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren as well as knitting, crocheting, quilting and doll making. She was a former Girl Scout Leader, a former Representative with the Educational Foundation for Foreign Study, and hosted several exchange students, She traveled to France, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, and Mexico to visit with the families of the students she hosted. She enjoyed singing and listening to spiritual songs and American classics. She was a former member of the West Wyomissing Chapel, West Lawn, PA and the Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, Sinking Spring, PA.

Surviving are her children: Barbara A. Clemmer, Harrisburg and Burnell A. Clemmer (and wife, Susan), Mt. Jackson, VA and 3 grandchildren: Burnell “Alex” Clemmer, Sara Clemmer and Anna Nicole “Niki” Clemmer.

Private Services were held at the convenience of the family.

God, Receive Lydia into your open arms of heavenly grace and now keep her eternally in heaven above with you. Her rewards are too numerous to number.
