It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Woodrow P. Brown, Jr., affectionately known as “Woody,” at the age of 80. Woody departed from this world on August 25, 2025, at Hershey Medical Center, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that touched all who knew him.
Born on October 9, 1944, in Harrisburg, Woody was the cherished son of the late Woodrow P. Brown Sr. and Anna Mae (Jacobs) Brown. A proud graduate of Hershey High School, he dedicated many years to his career as a machinist at AMP/Tyco before his well-earned retirement. Woody was an esteemed member of the Palmyra Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where he found community and support.
Woody's life was richly woven with memories of love and companionship, particularly with his beloved wife, Beulah “Boots” (Newhouse) Brown. Their marriage spanned 57 remarkable years until her passing in 2021. Woody also faced the heartache of losing his son, Thomas Michael Brown, and his sister, Joanne Fowler. Just a week before his own passing, he said goodbye to his cherished feline friend, Cheyenne.
Travel was a passion that Woody shared with Boots, and together they explored the beauty of the world through various trips, including adventures to Nova Scotia and Arizona to connect with family. After Boots’ departure, Woody embraced those memories while continuing to journey together with his daughter, Melanie, even enjoying a cruise to the Bahamas on a Ronnie McDowell Cruise.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Melanie; his caring sisters: Nancy Hummer, Charlotte Atkinson, and Patricia Derr (and her husband, Richard); along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts. His grand-dog, Peanut, will miss his gentle spirit greatly.
In honoring Woody's profound love for animals, the family encourages donations to be made in his memory to local animal charities or rescues, reflecting his kind-hearted nature.
A private service will be held, allowing family and friends to cherish their memories of Woody in a special and personal way.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Kimmel Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Woody's light will continue to shine in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return.
