William E. Zelko, lovingly known to friends and family as Bill, was born on December 11, 1946, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and passed away peacefully at home in Middle Paxton Township on January 27, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, whose quiet strength and gentle demeanor touched the hearts of everyone he met.
Bill enjoyed a fulfilling career as a Mechanical Engineer, retiring from TYCO (where he was known as "Wez") after previously working for AMP. His dedication to his profession was complemented by his educational journey, which began with a graduation from Central Dauphin High School in 1967 followed by studies at HACC, where a professor recognized his potential and encouraged him to join AMP while he pursued his education. Bill served his country honorably in the Air Force from 1967 to 1971 during the Vietnam Era, attaining the rank of Sargent.
A man of many talents, Bill’s proudest accomplishments were not only professional but also personal. He was known for his ethical hunting and fishing practices, adhering to the principle that he only took what would be consumed. Beyond this, he was an accomplished artist and woodcarver, famously creating furniture for his mother while still in high school. He took joy in nurturing his creative talents and instilled the same passion for the arts in his children.
Bill had a love of the outdoors, finding solace in camping, hunting, and fishing. His hobbies included archery, bow festivals, and fly fishing; he was also a passionate fan of country music, enjoyed cooking shows, and reveled in the camaraderie of watching Steelers and Eagles football games. Many fond memories will be shared of vacations spent at the beach with his family, visiting the islands, and enjoying cruises with his beloved wife, Mary.
As a quiet man with a closet sense of humor, Bill was protective of those he loved. He had an innate ability to make those around him feel at ease with his calm presence. He believed in fostering independence in his children, teaching them self-reliance while always being a steadfast support in their lives.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Mary J. (Rohrbach) Zelko, and cherished children: Shannon R. Zelko and Jeffrey E. Zelko (and his wife, Boshette). He leaves behind his beloved brothers, which includes Steve, John (and his wife, Karen), and Frank Zelko and his sister-in-law, Judy Zelko (wife of his late brother, Anthony). His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jordyn Hoover (and her husband, Austin), Samantha Gasiewski (and her husband, Michael), Sydni Kerr (and her husband, Evan), Karis, Azlyn, and Eryan Zelko, as well as great-grandsons Henry and Lincoln Gasiewski. His lifetime of love will also be remembered by his beloved cats, Teddy Bear and Binxie and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Bill joins his dear parents, Anthony and Norma (Brenneman) Zelko, his infant son William J. Zelko, and his brother Anthony Zelko, Jr., in eternal rest.
A visitation to honor Bill’s life will be held on February 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at the W. Orville Kimmel Funeral Home, Inc. in Harrisburg, PA. The graveside service with military honors will take place at 1:00 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Bill's family asks that flowers be omitted, and contributions in his memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. St. Jude Children's Hospital
