William A. Sheetz

May 17, 1906 — May 28, 2016

William A. "Bill"  (Poppy) Sheetz, formerly of Colonial Park, joined Christine, his wife of 80 years, in heaven on May 28, 2016 in Englewood, Florida, shortly after celebrating his 110th birthday on May 17th.

Born in Birdsboro, he later moved with his parents (Rev. William and Martha Sheetz) to Harrisburg along with his six siblings of which Mary Grim, York, is the only survivor.

During the Second World War he worked for the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot where he invented an automatic stop for the railroad which was then patented.  After retiring he and his wife started raising and showing West Highland Terriers. He was a board member of the Harrisburg Kennel Club and was also a member of the Progress Church of God.  He enjoyed gardening, watching baseball, fishing, travel trailering with the Good Sam Club, attending church and being with his family.

In addition to his sister, he is survived by his daughter, Shirley Farr, Englewood, FL, 3 grandchildren, Sandra Sowers (husband Richard), Englewood, FL, Thomas Farr (wife, Linda)  Lemoyne, and Susan Forbes (husband William), Englewood; 4 great grandsons, Ryan Sowers (wife Emily), Philadelphia, Albert Farr, Esq., New York City, Todd Sowers, Steamboat Springs, CO, and Andrew Sowers, New York City and a great great granddaughter, Marie Christine Sowers, Philadelphia.

Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, June 3, 2016 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. C. Alvin Cott officiating.  Burial will be in Hummelstown Cemetery.
