Following years of battling multiple myeloma, Robert H. “Duke” Alexander, 73, of Newberry Township, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born May 28, 1947 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Robert and Jean (Hanshaw) Alexander and was a 1965 graduate of John Harris High School. He had been a member of the former Derry Street United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, and played for a time on their baseball team.
Duke was an Installer for Lucent Technologies and following his retirement in 2002, worked for Williams Sonoma and Crane Industries.
Always a “people person”, Duke will be dearly missed for his great sense of humor and his favorite catch phrase, “Holy H***!”. For over 50 years, he played Santa Claus, for his family’s Christmas Eve Open House and for the children in the neighborhood. He was an avid street rod owner, and was proud of his ’67 GTO.
Surviving is his beloved wife of almost 52 years, Patricia J. (Fegley) Alexander; his two sons: David H. Alexander (and his wife, Theresa), Baltimore, MD and Michael L. Alexander (and Elina Sanchez), York Haven; two sisters: Barbara Alexander, Cape Cod, MA and Kim Adams, Camp Hill; his two grandchildren: Ronan Alexander and Nielle Alexander; two granddogs: Ollie and Maizie; his dear friend (and “son”): Bret Raffensberger (and his wife, Tammy), York Haven; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends and co-workers.
A celebration of Duke's life will be held at his home, 1100 Pleasant Grove Road, York Haven at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 29, 2021. All are welcome to attend.
