Ray D. McCoy Jr., born May 15, 1947, passed away at his home on March 24, 2026. He was 78 years old. (He had the nickname Razor strap growing up, because of his thin build when he was young.)
He dedicated 35 years of his life to the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC). Those who knew him well remember Ray as someone who was always ready to lend a hand, especially when it came to welding or repairing something.
Ray served in the Army Reserve and was also an active member of both the Woodhouse Hunting Club and the Penn Harris Gun Club.
Outside of work, Ray found great enjoyment in the outdoors. He loved hunting, camping, fishing, riding motorcycles and ATVs, and engaging in any activity connected to the outdoors. Spending time in nature with family and friends was a significant part of his life. Those close to him often recall his fondness for one-liner jokes, a trait that brought light to many gatherings.
Ray is survived by his wife, Sherryl; his daughters, Christen Cooke and Michele Kensinger; sons-in-law, Larry Cooke and Jerry Kensinger; and grandchildren, Alex, Zaccary, Andrew, Jack, Sarah, and Shelby. He is also survived by his siblings, Shirley, Barry (wife, Marian), Mark (wife, Judy), and Bob (wife, Sondra).
He was preceded in death by his sister, little Esther; and his parents, Ray D. McCoy and Esther McCoy.
A celebration of life to honor Ray’s life will be held on May 30, 2026, at the Susquehanna Club, 608 Ross Ave, New Cumberland, PA 17070. Guests are asked to arrive at 2:00 pm for a brief celebration service at 2:30 pm, followed by a time of remembrances from his family and friends until 5:00 pm. Please join in sharing your stories and pictures of Ray with us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending contributions in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (St. Jude) or to Tunnels to Towers (https://t2t.org).
