Myles H. Shoop, Jr., aged 84, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Claremont Home in Carlisle.
Born in the Harrisburg area on January 2, 1942, Myles was the beloved son of the late Myles and Ada Shoop. He was also preceded in death by several siblings and his cherished cat, Leo, along with other treasured pets who brought joy to his life.
Myles leaves behind a loving circle of nieces, nephews, and many devoted family members who will forever hold him in their hearts.
A man of remarkable intellect and a true gift for mathematics, Myles earned his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Penn State. He dedicated part of his career to the Letterkenny Army Depot in Franklin County before returning home to lovingly care for his aging parents. Later, he served as a Mechanical Engineer for the State Department of Transportation and ultimately retired from Prudential as a skilled Insurance Agent and Financial Planner.
Myles found joy in many passions, especially tennis, where he not only played avidly but also shared his knowledge through private lessons. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, his lifelong companion Helen Suciu, who sadly passed away in 2008.
Known for his warm sense of humor and boundless kindness, Myles was always ready to offer acts of service to family and friends. He delighted in cheering on Penn State and the Eagles on the football field and enjoyed listening to classic rock on 93.5. A true food enthusiast, he loved dining at buffets and was famously the last to leave the table. Deeply rooted in his Christian faith, Myles held a comforting belief that he would one day be reunited with his Savior.
A graveside service to honor Myles's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Shoop’s Garden of Rest in Harrisburg, with Pastor David Biser officiating.
In remembrance of Myles’s heartfelt love for cats and dogs, his family kindly invites contributions to be made in his memory to your favorite local animal charity.
The arrangements are entrusted to Kimmel Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Myles H. Shoop, Jr.’s life was a true testament to love, dedication, and kindness—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
