Monserrate Torres Santiago, age 83, of Harrisburg, quietly departed this life on November 12, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of love and cherished memories.
Born on April 2, 1942, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, Monserrate was the beloved daughter of the late Aurelio Torres and Carmen Santiago. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire her family and friends. Monserrate joins in eternal rest her husband, José Luis Zayas; her son, José Angel Zayas; her siblings, Larry Torres, Aurelio Torres Jr., and Rosa Torres; and her precious granddaughter, Jeannette.
Monserrate's deep-rooted faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Growing up with a mother who was a missionary, she embraced intercessory prayer and became a fervent member of the Praise and Worship Healing Ministry. Her unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ was evident in all she did, and she found joy in being surrounded by scripture and community.
Her creativity blossomed through her love for sewing, crafts, and adult coloring books. Music and captivating novellas filled her days with joy, while the sight of blooming house plants and fluttering butterflies brought her a special kind of happiness. Those fortunate enough to know her will remember her infectious laughter and spirited conversations, which were always sprinkled with her unique feistiness.
Monserrate’s spirit and kindness live on in her loving family: her son, Freddie Luis Zayas and his wife, Keely; her daughter, Mary Bell Rosario and her husband, Pablo; her daughter-in-law, Deborah Zayas; her brother, Arnaldo Torres and his wife, Ramonita; as well as her grandchildren, José Alexander, Julio José, Kelly, Joseph, Beatriz, Anna Marie, Freddie Gabriel, Roberto José, and Marisol. Her heart also embraces numerous great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, along with a host of cherished nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Monserrate's life will be held at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a viewing beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by services at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in Shoop’s Garden of Rest, where her memory will continue to thrive.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to her beloved church at 2946 Jefferson Street, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
As we reflect on Monserrate’s life, let us carry forward her legacy of faith, strength, and laughter, treasuring the many ways she touched our lives. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
