Maydine (Burdine) Luster

Maydine “May” (Burdine) Luster, a devoted wife, nurturing mother, proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished sister passed away peacefully in her home on March 25, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on May 7, 1938, in Reading, Pennsylvania to Willie C. (Thomas) Burdine and Arsenil Burdine. Maydine was a force of commitment, resilience, and strength. She dedicated her life to her family and will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, her love of music, and the delicious and soulful meals she prepared for those she loved (especially during the holidays). Her daughters have countless cherished memories, including movies on the big screen, the casino, live music, and traveling. Maydine married her soulmate, Robert E. Luster in 1969 and together they shared 23 years of adventure and devotion.

Known for her warmth, kindness and dedicated service to her community, Maydine touched the lives of many with her steadfast work ethic, and outgoing personality with her never met a stranger persona. From her years as a preschool teacher at Hildebrandt Learning Center to her impactful work as a Job Placement Counselor at Youth Urban Services and secretary at the Camp Curtin YMCA, she loved supporting youth programs in any capacity.

Fitness was an important aspect of Maydine’s life. She was a former member of the Central Penn Fitness Club. For her lifelong commitment to health and fitness, Maydine was the recipient of the Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging Senior Fitness Award for the year 2000. She also enjoyed walking outdoors and exercising at home.

Maydine will be deeply missed by her beloved daughters, Stephanie A. Luster of Harrisburg, PA; Yvette A. Luster of Fort Wayne, IN; and Shanell L. Luster of Harrisburg, PA; her adored granddaughter, Amber Y. Luster of Harrisburg, PA; her treasured great-grandson, Amauri T. Luster of Harrisburg, PA; her loving siblings, Larry Burdine of Reading, PA; Diane Burdine of Reading, PA; and Michelle Burdine-Thaxton of Pittsburgh, PA; and a wide circle of family and friends. 

Maydine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Luster; her mother, Willie C. (Thomas) Burdine; father, Arsenil Burdine; sister, Arlene Burdine; and brother, Isaiah “Ike” Golden, Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 11, 2026 at 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Kimmel Funeral Home, Inc. located at 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, PA 17103. Maydine's family will host a visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.

In light of her giving nature, her family requests that contributions in Maydine's memory be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
