Lee N. Whitaker, Sr.

November 21, 1920 — August 12, 2017

Lee N. Whitaker, Sr., 96, passed away peacefully at Community General Osteopathic Hospital on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Born November 21, 1920, he was the son of Harry and Ida (Hoffman) Whitaker and was a graduate of Halifax High School and Oxford Business College.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne (Magaro) Whitaker; his daughter, Nancy Fox; 5 sisters; 5 brothers and one step granddaughter.

He was an Army veteran of WWII, and served in both Germany and France as a paratrooper with the 13th Airborne Division.

Lee’s entire business career was with Mid-Atlantic Coca Cola where he worked his way up from a route salesman to General Manager.

He was an active member of the former Stevens Memorial United Methodist Church where he was Sunday School Superintendent and served on many other boards and committees.  His most recent membership was with Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg.  Lee was active in civic and business organizations;  Boy Scouts, Lions Club, Tri-County United Way, Arthritis Foundation, Special Olympics and many others.  He was a member of the Harrisburg-Snyder Masonic Lodge #629, F&AM, achieving his 33rd Degree and was also a member of the Scottish and York Rite, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg Chapter #76, National Sojourners and others.  He was also the past Grandmaster of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Master Masons of PA.

He was fortunate to have had a long and wonderful life.  To many he was known as “Mr. Coke” and he will be dearly missed by all.

Surviving is his son, Lee N. Whitaker, Jr. (Carol); his daughter, Claudia Pritchard (Gary); son-in-law, George Fox; brother, Douglass Gross; 3 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; and 2 step-great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 am Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, 17109 with the Rev. Dr. S. Ronald Parks officiating.

A Masonic Service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at the church, followed by a visitation from 10:15 am until 11:15 am.

Burial with military honors will be held 10:30 am Friday, August 18, 2017 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to his church or to Boy Scouts of America, New Birth of Freedom Council, 1 Baden Powell Lane, Mechanicsburg, 17050.
