Kathleen C. Chervenka

Kathleen C. Chervenka, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 8, 2025, under hospice care from numerous complications due to a prior battle with breast cancer. Born on December 30, 1949, in Ambridge, PA, Kathy spent her working career as an IT Specialist for the Pennsylvania Labor and Industry until her well-deserved retirement.

During her annual Christmas visits to her Aunt Sylvia, Kathy was particularly fond of preparing her favorite family recipe of bobalki, a culinary tradition that brought everyone together, creating memories that will be treasured.

Kathy's passion for her interests led her to become deeply involved in the Harrisburg Shetland Sheepdog Club, where she volunteered over the years for various events, showcasing her commitment to the community. Masterfully training and trialing her shelties in multiple disciplines, including Obedience, Rally Obedience, Agility, Herding, and Scent work, she achieved impressive milestones in competitions sanctioned by AKC, UKC, CDSP, and CWAGS. This dedication not only highlighted her skills but also reflected her love for these remarkable animals.

In the world of hobbies, Kathy delighted in catering and cake decorating, talents that enriched many occasions with her sweet creations. Additionally, she had a fondness for collecting fine crystal figurines.

Kathy leaves behind her two beloved shelties, Nick and Leo, who will be cared for by her long-time friends, Judy Fegan and Peggy Witmer. She is survived by her dear Aunt Sylvia Novak and numerous cousins who will miss her greatly. She reunites with her mother, Helen Stemberski Chervenka; her father, John Chervenka; her sister, Joni Hacker; and her brother-in-law, Scott Hacker, who have preceded her in death.

As we remember Kathy, we honor a life filled with love, dedication, and passion for her pursuits.

In memory of Kathy, donations may be sent to Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. 7790 Grayson Road Harrisburg, PA 17111 or Heart's Promise Sheltie Rescue 219 East Meyer Avenue New Castle, PA 16105.
