June 15, 1956 — February 26, 2016

Karmel Quinn (Woodhead) Gutschmidt Shidler, age 59, passed away quietly at her home in Harrisburg on Friday, February 26, 2016.

Born June 15, 1956 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard Woodhead and Belva A. Miller.

An avid reader, she read at least ten books weekly, and her children remember their constant trips into the Paperback Exchange in Harrisburg.  She also loved going to the beach, watching birds and caring for her cats.   She enjoyed watching many different types of shows on television, especially football games to cheer on her Dallas Cowboys.

Karmel worked in the office of Penn National Insurance Agency in Harrisburg for many years when she was young.  Following that, her passion for tanning led to her working for and ultimately owning Exotic Tan in New Cumberland.  In 2002, she decided to join her daughter in Indiana, until her desire to come"home" brought her back to Harrisburg in 2009.  Until her passing, she worked for the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Walnut Street.

She is survived by her son:  Adam J. Gutschmidt (and his wife, Heather), Newport, her daughter:  Kelly E. Myers (and her husband, John), Portage, IN; 2 sisters:  Carrie Rogers (and her husband, Richard), Harrisburg and Myrtle Beach and Marie Woodhead, Harrisburg, one brother:  Carl Woodhead (and his wife, Sharon), Harrisburg; 4 grandchildren:  Krystal Appleberry, Charlie Appleberry III, Marcus Appleberry and Trinity Gutschmidt; one great granddaughter:  Sadie Appleberry and many nieces and nephews.
