June W. (Walter) Derrick Grubb

June W. (Walter) Derrick Grubb, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Selinsgrove with her son Stuard by her side.

Born March 29, 1924 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Alma (Weigle) Walter and was a 1942 graduate of John Harris High School, where she was voted Most Popular and Best Dancer of her senior class. She attended Penn State University and Central Pennsylvania Business School, and received her GRI degree from the Pennsylvania Realtors Institute. A former secretary for NBC in New York, at age 48 she took over Stuard Derrick Real Estate upon the death of her husband, Stuard H. Derrick, and transformed it into one of the largest and most successful real estate companies in Central Pennsylvania with 5 branch offices.

She was a former member of Paxton Presbyterian Church and held memberships and officer positions in many professional, social and civic organizations. She was a former Vice President of the Board of Directors of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce; member and Former Director of the Greater Harrisburg Board of Realtors; Past President of the Harrisburg-York Chapter of the Women's Council of Realtors; former Board Trustee of the Harrisburg Academy, where she was also Past President of the PTO; former Director and Secretary of the Visiting Nurses Association; former Treasurer of Central Pennsylvania Multi-List; and was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Harrisburg United Way and the Central Pennsylvania Business College.

In 1979, June was honored as Realtor of the Year by the Greater Harrisburg Board of Realtors. She lectured extensively on and encouraged the possibilities and special benefits of mature women re-entering the work force after raising a family. In 1978 she was a judge for the Patriot-News Scholarship Awards. She enjoyed, reading, golf, world travelling, dancing, opera, theatre, ballet, and Big Band music.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands: Stuard H. Derrick and Robert A. Grubb; her brother,  James Walter;  and her son, Thomas W. Derrick.

Surviving are her two sons: Stuard M. Derrick, Selinsgrove and Cape Cod; and James R. Derrick, Waynesboro. Step-children: Barbara Grubb, Selinsgrove; Susan Grubb Jackson, Millersville, MD; Barbara Grubb Obrecht, Centreville, MD; and John R. Grubb, Duxbury, MA, as well as 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and two cousins, Susan Weigle Wasco of Lemoyne and Coramelia Weigle Keller of Mechanicsbug.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am, with an hour visitation prior to the service, on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg with the Rev. Arlene Dunn and Lay Chaplain Roger Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Camp Hill.

There will also be a celebration at 11:00 am Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High Street, Selinsgrove, with an hour prior visitation.
