John V. "Jack" Dando, 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016, finally ending his 27 year struggle as a stroke victim.
Born September 5, 1933 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Sara Brought Dando and William I. Dando, and step-son of the late Martha H. Dando, and was also preceded in death by his brother William Dando, and his beloved sister, Delores Dando Metka.
Prior to his stroke, Jack was the Vice President of Construction and Estimator at Rogele, Inc. where he was employed for 27 years.
He was a Soap Box Derby medal winner, 1952 graduate of John Harris High School, a Korean War veteran, a 53 year member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, and a dedicated member of the Paxtang Lions Club. Jack enjoyed bowling and attending high school sports. His greatest passion was golf, reveling in his Father’s Day hole-in-one. He was a member of Valley Green Golf Course and West Shore Country Club.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 58 years, Bonnie; a daughter Kathy Dando of Mechanicsburg; a daughter Kelly and her husband Dave Kerns of Morgantown, WV; a step-sister Marilyn and husband Lawrence Bendinelli of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Richard Barnett Jr. and wife Marilyn of Mt. Joy, PA; nephews Andrew Barnett of Arlington, VA; Matthew Barnett of Columbus, OH; Barry Dando of Mechanicsburg, Ed Metka and wife Alice of Mechanicsburg, Bob Metka and wife Marty Jean of Harrisburg, PA; Larry Bendinelli of Santa Barbara, CA, and Rodger Bendinelli of Mission Viejo, CA.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 pm Friday, March 18, 2016 at Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, 17111. Friends will be received at the church from 2:00-3:00 pm.
