A proud graduate of William Penn High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, James earned his high school diploma in 1982 through the Vo-Tech program. Shortly after, he honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 1985, receiving an honorable discharge a chapter of his life that reflected his discipline, strength, and commitment.

James dedicated 23 years of service as a certified welder with Cleveland Brothers Equipment, where he was known for his strong work ethic, skill, and reliability. Outside of work, he was a proud member of Club Med Billiards, where he enjoyed shooting pool and spending time with friends.

James had a special relationship with his Lord and Savior. He also had a deep love for music, especially Mary J. Blige, whom he was grateful to see live in concert. James appreciated good times, especially admiring nice cars, but he was specially known for his impeccable sense of style.
