Huling Zheng

October 25, 1939 — August 19, 2023

Susquehanna Township

Huling Zheng, of Harrisburg Pennsylvania, peacefully entered into her Heavenly Home to rest in the arms of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on August 19, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded at home by her loving family.

Huling  had a happy childhood and was raised in a large family of Christian faith in Zhanglin, a small town in the Chaoshan region of the Guangdong Province of southern China, by her parents Mr. Bangyan Zheng and Mrs. Chanlan Chen. They were among the first Christians to receive the ministries brought to this coastal city. Her father ran a well-established photography studio. However, during Huling’s teenage years, her family’s fate changed, suffering financial hardship and religious persecution due to the political turmoil of the Communist Revolution. But they persevered and remained faithful, strengthened by God’s providence.

As an adult, Huling honored God in her service to others. She was a person of noble character: honest, humble, kind, pure-hearted, gentle, virtuous, compassionate, and always glad to help those in need. She dedicated her life to pathology lab research at the Zhongshan Eye Institute in Guangzhou, where she spent over 40 years. During this time, she trained many outstanding graduate students, published several academic papers acclaimed both at home and abroad, and received numerous accolades from her colleagues.

Following her retirement, Huling immigrated to the United States with her husband in 2011 and dedicated her time to spiritual growth and to her family. She was an avid participant in worship and Bible study at the Chinese Alliance Church of Harrisburg, and she also attended Crosspoint United Methodist Church with her daughter’s family. Prior to the pandemic, she spent most Sundays attending services at both churches.

Huling’s love of music, singing, photography, and history was passed onto her grandchildren, who are accomplished in violin, piano, singing, and music education. But her greatest joy was to gather with family, who lovingly called her ‘Mama’, making dumplings and traditional dishes together. As her health declined, Mama continued to pray and encourage her family and friends to remain faithful. She inspired her children and grandchildren to excel in their education and careers. To this end, an ordinary little woman became an extraordinary matriarch through God’s grace.

Huling dedicated her life to God, and to her family and friends. Her family is grateful for her presence, and glad that she may rest from her earthly labor. Our greatest comfort is witnessing the fruit of God’s work that follows her. We will always remember Mama’s peaceful face, and rest assured that we shall meet again.

Huling’s memory lives on with her husband of 57 years, Kaihong Yang of Harrisburg; her daughter, Alice Xintian Hoffman of Harrisburg (as well as her son-in-law Karl, granddaughter Elma Ling, and grandson C.J.); her son, Raymond Xincong Yang of China (and daughter-in-law Choi Hui-Yan Joanna, and granddaughter Si-En Susan); her older sister, Rui-Ru Zheng of Australia, her younger brother, Rui-Men Zheng of China, and many nieces and nephews.

Huling will be laid to rest at 12:00pm on Friday, August 25, at the Garden of Rest, 4400 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, PA. All friends and fellows in Christ are invited to attend the graveside ceremony, and say farewell to our dear sister. The service will be officiated by Rev. John Zhao.
