Geraldine P. Adkins

Geraldine P. Adkins, 62, Dillsburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Holy Spirit Hospital.

Born February 9, 1956 in Quincy, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late David J. and Mary J. (Shea) Adkins.  She was a 1974 graduate of Northern High School and received her nursing degree from Harrisburg-Steelton-Highspire Vocational Technical School.

Gerry was an Army veteran and a Licensed Practical Nurse.  Much of her career was spent in long-term care facilities, including Messiah Village, Blue Ridge and Outlook.  Her most recent position offered her the opportunity to care for residents in an Alzheimer’s Unit.

She loved attending family gatherings and sitting by an evening fire, appreciating nature and the outdoors, playing games with her family and watching her friend’s granddaughter.  She also enjoyed watching The Weather Channel and horror movies, often controlling the remote.  While living in Florida with her sister, Andrea, Gerry spent many evening going to the park to watch the dolphins come up in the bayou.  She was raised in the Catholic faith and formerly belonged to the VFW in Dillsburg.

Surviving are her siblings:  Deborah F. Funt (and her husband, David), Carlisle, Cary E. Emlet (and her husband, Jeffrey), Camp Hill, Andrea J. Lernihan, Columbus, OH, Katherine E. Withjack (and her husband, Scott), Mechanicsburg and Dean J. Adkins (and his wife, Jo-Ellen), Annandale, VA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
