George H. Baddorf, 90, formerly a resident of Enola Commons Senior Apartments, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Forest Park Nursing Center, Carlisle.
Born December 19, 1935, in Harrisburg, George was the son of the late James F. Baddorf, Sr. and Kathryn I. (Barbour) Baddorf. George was a 1954 graduate of Enola High School, where he met his future wife, the former Margie Mundis. On July 11, 1954, shortly after graduation, he and Margie were married, sharing 68 beautiful years together until her passing in 2022.
Never one shy away from hard work, George owned Baddorf’s Grocery Store in Summerdale from 1954—while still a senior in high school—until the mid-1960s. George continued to work at many other stores in the area, including Food Fair, Karns, Kessler’s, Giant, and Potteiger Meats, in addition to running a market stall at Rudy’s Market for several years. George’s work ethic never diminished in later life; he spent several years operating a Rohrer Bus/Van for people with disabilities before retiring to care for his wife.
An important part of George’s life revolved around the Summerdale Fire Company and the Summerdale Ambulance Association. Notably, George was one of a few men involved acquiring the first ambulance to serve the Summerdale area. After dedicating his time to serving his community for several decades, he was awarded lifetime service at both the Fire Company and the Ambulance Association.
When George had time away from work, he enjoyed vacationing at Rehoboth Beach with his family and friends, preferring to captain on his pontoon boat over relaxing on the beach. George and Margie loved meeting new people, always sparking new friendships everywhere they went. While living at their apartment complex, George and Margie loved to participate in activities and fostered many lasting friendships. George’s warm hugs and Margie’s memorable laugh will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his brothers: James (aka “Jimmy” or “Sonny”) Baddorf and Charles Baddorf; and his sister, Ethel (Baddorf) Basore.
Surviving are his children: Debra Reynolds and George Baddorf, Jr. (and his wife, Lynn); two granddaughters: Jamie Baddorf (and her husband, Andrew Taverna) and Meghan Baddorf (and Ian Robison); several nieces, nephews, and their families; his grand-pups: Gunther, Bianca, and Lilo; and a special young man, Alonzo, who always called him “my friend, George”.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with Chaplain Daniel Buckley officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until time of services. Burial beside his wife will take place in Rolling Green Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in George’s memory to the Northeast Fire and Rescue Company (202 Third Street, Enola, 17025); the East Pennsboro Emergency Medical Services (10 Salt Road, Enola, 17025); or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105).
