With his loving family by his side, Fred R. “Fritz” Rudy, Jr., 93, Lower Paxton Township, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at his home.
Born August 18, 1928 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Fred R. and Alverda (Blessing) Rudy and was a graduate of William Penn High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Doris J. (Berlin) Rudy and his sister, Dorothy Powley.
Fritz retired from Conrail, having worked his way up the ranks from Electrician, Shop Foreman, finally retiring as a supervisor.
As a founding charter member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, he was a former usher and an active supporter of the church’s Boy Scout Troop. He had also been a Little League coach and the manager of the Penn Colonial Swim Club. Fritz was an avid bowler at many local lanes and traveling leagues and on multiple occasions bowled a nearly perfect 300. He was a huge NY Yankees fan and also cheered on Penn State football and wrestling teams. In his spare time, he loved woodworking, and had a workshop at his home. He and his late wife enjoyed traveling, especially to Sanibel Island, where they went yearly for over 40 years. Fritz was also known for loving fine scotch.
Surviving are his children: Jeffrey A. Rudy (and his wife, Victoria), West Chester, Bradley K. Rudy (and his wife, Barbara), Ackworth, Georgia, Steven C. Rudy (and his wife, Jan), Linglestown and Suzanne E. Colella (and her husband, Massimo, Hagerstown, MD; 7 grandchildren: David Rudy, Julia Rudy, Aaron Rudy, Christina Rudy, Andrew Coldsmith, Tara Coldsmith, and Rachel Green; and 2 great grandchildren: Addie and Abel Coldsmith; and his lifelong loving friend and former high school sweetheart: Freda Keane, Harrisburg.
Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with Rev. Randall Bennett, Jr., officiating. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Burial will be beside his dear wife at Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill. Face coverings are requested at the funeral home.
