Fay I. Dunkle

December 30, 1923 — February 28, 2021

Harrisburg

Fay I. Dunkle, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Homeland Center, Harrisburg, her home since 2010.

Born December 30, 1923 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Florence (Keller) Dunkle and was also preceded in death by her brother George Dunkle and his wife, Jane; her sister Roberta Parthemore and her husband, George; her brother Michael Dunkle; and her beloved friend Leroy Pletz.

Fay was a 1941 graduate of John Harris High School and worked for the Farm Bureau (which later became Agway, Inc.) for over 42 years, only leaving when they asked her to move to Syracuse. Since Fay was a devoted caregiver to her mother, she opted to stay near her family in Harrisburg, and went on to work at the Governor’s Office.

For over 80 years, Fay and her family were staunch members of the former Epworth United Methodist Church, where she was an active member and served as a greeter on Sundays. When Epworth closed, she joined Charlton United Methodist Church and once she was a resident at Homeland, she was a faithful attender of services in the chapel.

In her younger years, Fay enjoyed going to dances and out to eat, reading, and traveling with friends from Maine to Florida. A second mother to her nieces and nephews, she loved spending time with her family. She was a lovely lady, made friends easily and had a great sense of humor, using her skill for telling jokes at the Homeland talent show.

Surviving are her niece and nephews: Sandra Hocker (and her husband, Edward), Michael Dunkle (and his wife, Sharon), David Dunkle, and Douglas Dunkle (and his wife, Patricia) and all of their families; and her sister in law: Dorothy Dunkle.

There will be a viewing from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Friday, March 5, 2021 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg. Funeral services will be private. Covid 19 protocols of face coverings and social distancing will be followed.

Burial with her parents will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery.
