Dorothy E. Garber

October 28, 1922 — September 10, 2014

Surrounded by loving friends, Dorothy E. "Dottie" Garber, 91, of Harrisburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at her home.

Born October 28, 1922 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late William Brunner and Grace Potteiger, and was also preceded in death by her dear friend, Clair Shaffner and her beloved dog, Bailey.

She was a 1942 graduate of John Harris High School, and retired from Olmstead Air Force Base in Middletown.  She was a member of Derry Street United Methodist Church; and enjoyed sewing, reading the newspaper, socializing with her neighbors and cookouts at Mary's.

Married to Lester A. Garber on May 1, 1959, she became a widow on December 26, 1961.

Although Dottie has no living relatives, her neighbors became her family.  She is survived by friends Bonnie Davis, Lisa Hetrick, Neia Bailey, Michelle Settle, the whole Davis-Neal-Strawbridge-Carelock family; Brian, Michelle and Abby from Legacy Hospice; Bryan K. Neal and Rodney Ramsey, who helped with her care;  and her entire neighborhood, all of whom loved her and will miss her greatly.

Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with Father Michael Scalzi, Legacy Hospice Spiritual Care Coordinator, officiating.  There will be a viewing at the funeral home from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Tuesday.
