J. David "Dave" Brinkley
Surrounded by his loving wife and family, David Brinkley, 53, Camp Hill, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Hershey Medical Center following a years long, hard fought battle against cancer.
Dave was born February 4, 1963 in Altoona, son of the late Herbert and Joye (Quick) Brinkley, and was a 1981 graduate of Northern High School, Dillsburg. In 1986, he went to work for Culligan Water, but his focus since he was a young boy has been music. Gifted at percussion instruments, guitar and vocals, he became well known for the many local bands he played for, including Strange Behavior, Leghorn, Just Friends, Starfire, Equinox, Asylum, Avengers, Freon, Visitors, Penetrators, Pat Cusick Band, Element 22, Jenny Lynn and the Combinations, American Roulette, and his most recent band, Honeypump. The entire local musician community is mourning the loss of this amazing man.
He attended and played in the Worship Band for Daybreak Church (Enola Campus); coached soccer, baseball and basketball while his children were young; and played in an Adult Men's Basketball League. In addition to his music, he loved going to the beach, especially the Outer Banks. His greatest joy, however, came from spending time with his beloved family and friends.
Surviving is his loving wife, Teena D. (Fowler) Brinkley; daughter: Rachel E. Brinkley, Hummelstown; sons: Christopher M. Brinkley, Pittsburgh and Daniel H. Brinkley, Middletown; his stepson: Jayson Nevin, at home; his sisters: Gayle Telegdy (and her husband, Andrew), Pittsburgh and Jayne Brinkley (and her husband, Randall Carpenter), Camp Hill; his precious grandson, Cole Alan Brinkley; nephews: Jason Brinkley, Brent Telegdy, Brad Telegdy and Paul Telegdy, Mark Donadee and Drew Donadee; Great nieces and nephews: Hanna and Chase Telegdy, Brandon and Colin Telegdy and Shelby and Morgan Telegdy; as well as a host of other friends and fellow musicians, all of whom will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held 6:00 pm Tuesday February 23, 2016 at Daybreak Church, 321 Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, 17055, where friends will be received from 4:30 until 5:30 pm. Pastor Ronald O'Neil, Jr., will be officiating. Following the service, all are invited to stay for refreshments and to share memories of Dave.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to his church's Benevolence Fund; or live plants would be gratefully appreciated for the memorial service.
Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
When I have fallen from grace
When I grow weak from the pace
I can feel the breath of gentle wings on my face
And when the world closes in around me
Then my angel
Will come and roll away the stone
Like a hand reaching down from the heavens
And when the darkness falls all around me
Then my angel
Will come and draw aside the veil
I am safe in the arms of my angel
I can close my eyes but I still see it shine
