Charles E. Saladin

April 23, 1921 — June 17, 2014

Charles E. Saladin, 93, a resident at Homeland Center, Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.  He joins his beloved wife, Jean (Rugg) Saladin, who passed away in 2008 after 59 years of marriage.

Born April 23, 1921 in Rahway, NJ, he was the son of the late Alfred Saladin and Melva (Naylor) Saladin Martin.  In addition to his wife and  parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Howard Martin, brother, Clifford Saladin, sister, Evelyn Granitzki and his son in law, Kyle Frankford.

Mr. Saladin was a graduate of Rahway High School, and following graduation, enlisted in the Navy.  He served from 1942 until 1952, and continued his service in the US Naval Reserves for 28 years.  He also retired as an electrician from Chevron Oil Company, Perth Amboy, NJ.

He was a member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg; and had been an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Rahway, where he belonged to the Methodist Men.  Mostly, his greatest joy in life came from spending time with his beloved family and woodworking and painting in his workshop.

Surviving are his daughter, Judith Frankford, Harrisburg; two sons, Charles Saladin, Jr. (and Gail), Somerville, NJ and Richard Saladin (and Renee Tuttle), North Brunswick, NJ; five grandchildren, Lauren Salerno (and Michael), Garrett Frankford, Lindsay Ebner (and Matthew), Jonathan Saladin and Ryan Saladin; and his "granddog", Rosco.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 11:30 am, Monday, June 23, 2014 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm at his church, Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, 17111, with Rev. John Green, his pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested in his memory to Paxton Presbyterian Church.

Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
