On July 27, 2025, Catherine D. Shubart, lovingly known as Kathy and “Nana,” aged 64, of Oberlin, left this world peacefully at Hershey Medical Center, surrounded by the warmth of her beloved family and friends.
Born on November 19, 1960, in Harrisburg, Kathy was the cherished daughter of the late William Shubart and Shirley (Smith) Shubart. She was welcomed into eternity by her siblings, Mary Shubart and Edward Shubart, and her adored kitty, Snippy. Kathy had a brief stint in the Air Force before her heart found its true purpose with the arrival of her first child, Cayce.
Kathy spent many years as a loan processor, but after caring for several family members, realized her heart’s calling was home health care, and she was currently working for Home Care Precision until her passing.
Her caring nature was evidenced by her love of plants and her vegetable garden and cooking and caring for her family. She was a fierce and loving mother who embraced her role with all her heart, providing stability and joy for her children. Her dedication to creating cherished family memories was evident in the fun vacations to the beach and the strong work ethic she imparted to her son and daughter. Her maternal instincts extended beyond her immediate family, as she opened her home to many others, raising them as her own, each one held dear in her heart.
An avid fan of Madonna and a loyal viewer of Game of Thrones, Kathy shared her enthusiasm with her family, often insisting they join her for the latest episode. Yet, her most profound passion lay in her fascination with Native American culture—its literature, films, and collectibles resonated with her soul. She treasured the opportunity to learn about the diverse customs and beliefs of the tribes, allowing their history to enrich her life.
Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Cayce N. Zeiders and her fiancé, Eric Genseler, and Dustin L. Zeiders and his wife, Melissa. Her heart swells with pride for her seven grandchildren: Savannah Bonner, Hannah Zeiders, Nicholas Bonner, Hailey Zeiders, Cheyenne Frace, Cameron Zeiders, and Dakota Frace. She was also the doting great-grandmother to sweet little Casimir Frace. Kathy is also survived by her siblings, Carrie Shubart and William Shubart, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends and loved ones. Her close-knit circle of girlfriends will especially feel the void of her absence.
A celebration of Kathy’s remarkable life will occur at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with a visitation starting at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association at 4250 Crums Mill Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17112, or to her family's GoFundMe to assist with funeral expenses (https://www.gofundme.com/f/heartfelt-farewell-for-cathrine-shubart).
Kathy's love, laughter, and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her memory will continue to inspire those she touched, living on in each heart she encountered.
