Carol E. McMillian

May 1, 1941 — May 25, 2017

Surrounded by her loving family, Carol E. McMillian, age 76, of North Port, Florida, passed away at her daughter’s home in Carlisle on Thursday, May 25, 2017.

Born May 1, 1941 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy L. Sowers Platt and was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Gutshall, her step-father, John Platt and her father, Harry Gutshall.

She was a graduate of Central Dauphin High School and retired in 1987 from Lebarnold Trucking as an over the road truck driver.  She also briefly served in the US Air Force.

After retirement, Carol split her time between here and Florida, and was a beloved member of a group from the US and Canada who spent time in Holiday Park.  There she was an avid tennis player, often playing every day of the week; enjoyed biking, kayaking and bowling; and happily joined in all the parties and festivities with her friends.

Carol’s love of driving extended beyond her job; even into her seventies she drove all over the country and into Canada to visit her friends from Florida and her daughters in Pennsylvania and New Mexico.  She was fiercely independent and outspoken, and if she had an opinion, you heard it.  She loved to eat (though not cook), listened to classic Country Western music (especially Kris Kristofferson), and loved all babies, human and furry.

Surviving are her daughters:  Traci J. Conner, Las Cruces, NM and Kelli L. Wileman (and her husband, Larry), Carlisle; 2 sisters:  Karen Patton (and her husband, Harold), Harrisburg and Phyllis Taylor, Red Lion; one brother:  Marion Gutshall (and his wife, Polly), Camp Hill; 3 grandchildren:  Sara Gutshall, Samuel Gutshall and Elliott Birkman; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends here and in Holiday Park, all of whom will miss her greatly.

A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. John Green officiating.

Friends will be received from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of Central Pennsylvania, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, 17110.
